Eyes Wide Open: Cambodia

Eyes Wide Open has now gone to Cambodia and Ty asked me to make a video out of the footage he shot. This is the video I made.

If you are wondering why it looks like it was shot with a Hi8 camcorder from the early 90′s, it’s because it was. I had to import an analog feed from the camera’s s-video output into my handy dandy Hauppauge USB tuner (quite possibly the coolest thing I’ve ever bought). I ran into a lot of issues with the video and even more with the audio but it came out good all things considered. I got a lot of good feedback which was comforting since the video wasn’t as good as I hoped, but still better than I expected.

It has a real documentary feel which is nice so I hope you enjoy. You can also check out my other Eyes Wide Open video made after the first Westcott House event. Also check out http://eyes-wide-open.info and http://EwoInCambodia.blogspot.com.

You can download the “mo def” version here…not that the video quality is that much better. Download (87.8 MB)

  1. It does have a documentary feel to it. Next time you have to use “analog” footage… you might want to crop it just a little bit at the top and bottom. For some reason, when capturing the analog way… there’s always that crap at the bottom of the frame.

  2. Good call. There’s a few other things I want to change in a revised version. I was really out of time on that video though! Thanks for the tip.
