The Moment

I’m not trying to get political up in here (yet) but I gotta say I’m digging all the inaguration media that’s out there. Say what you want about the man, but "The Moment" as CNN calls it was pretty epic as far as coverage and attendance. Some of my favorite ways to view the moment so far are listed below.

Microsoft Photosynth via CNN

by hundreds of photograpgers
You may have seen Microsoft’s Photosynth before, but I don’t think one’s been done on this scale before (I could be wrong). This photosynth is a compiled 3Dish scene of over 1000 pictures by CNN and Microsoft of the moment Obama was taking his oath. It’s a little glitchy and goofy to navigate sometimes but overall pretty mesmerizing.

Gigapan via Gigapan.org
by David Bergman
I’ve never seen or heard of a Gigapan before but it’s basically hundreds of photos from one perspective stiched into a very large 2D photo. It’s pretty cool to look around and see all the detail. Of particular coolness is the snapshots people can add of specific parts of the photo. My favorite is this stagehand joke.

Satellite Picture via CNN

by GeoEye
Not quite as high on the sheer coolness factor, but still kinda cool is CNN’s satellite image of the moment by GeoEye. Not as much detail as I’d like but still interesting.

Inaguration Speech via YouTube

by C-SPAN
Finally, if you missed it because you’re a big idiot like me, or maybe you were just busy, you can watch the oath and speech on good ‘ol YouTube thanks to C-SPAN in a desperate attempt to be relevant. (The audio is strangely loud…so beware.)
